Fabrication and Characterization of Fiber-Reinforced Composite Sandwich Structures Obtained by Fused Filament Fabrication Process

The application of fused filament fabrication processes is rapidly expanding in many domains such as aerospace, automotive, medical, and energy, mainly due to the flexibility manufacturing structures with complex geometries a short time. To improve mechanical properties lightweight sandwich structures, polymer matrix can be strengthened different materials, carbon fibers glass fibers. In this study, fiber-reinforced composite were fabricated by FFF process their characterized. order conduct tests for three-point bending, tensile strength, impact behavior, two types skins produced from chopped carbon-fiber-reinforced skin using core reinforced fiber at three infill densities 100%, 60%, 20%. Using microscopic analysis, behavior breaking surfaces most common defects on analyzed. results indicated significant influence filling density case bending tests. contrast, does not decisively structural performance structures. Composite manufactured process, analyzed terms strength-to-mass ratio. Finite element analysis was performed analyze behavior.
